Named after Philip Marlowe. Not the detective specifically. The feel of the name. Warm, steady, a little old-fashioned. It fit her before we even met her.

Marlowe is calm in a way that surprises people. She walked into our house at eight weeks old, sniffed the mat, looked at both kids, and fell asleep on the kitchen floor. That wasn't luck. That was temperament. But it's also something we've built on every day since.
She's curious without being frantic. She'll investigate everything in a new room, but she doesn't panic when something surprises her. She checks in with us constantly. Eye contact, a glance, a return to our feet. That's attachment forming in real time.
She loves: frozen lick mats, the boys' socks (unfortunately), morning sniffs in the garden, being held like a baby (Rebecca's fault), and the specific spot under Lee's desk where a patch of sun hits the floor around 2 PM.
She is not perfect. She still mouths when she's overtired. She sometimes ignores recall when there's another dog. She ate half a crayon last week. She is a puppy. That's the whole point.

Came home
8 weeks old. Four pounds. Walked in like she owned the place.
Week 1
First settle
Captured her first natural lie-down on the kitchen floor. Quiet treat between the paws.
Week 2
Sleeping through
10 PM to 6 AM. Not because we trained it. Because she was rested enough to regulate.
Week 3
Mat work started
Towel on the kitchen floor. Treat for going to it. The beginning of her portable calm zone.
Week 4
First park visit
On the long line. Sniffed everything. Recalled on the first call. Slept for three hours after.
